Here, There, and Everywhere

It's been a busy spring!  As you may know, my neighbor's building burned to the ground in late March. I prefer a less destructive form of spring cleaning, but nobody asked me.  Luckily the contents of my studio were unscathed, but the apartment did sustain some damage so we're displaced until that can be finished.  Despite all this, opportunities keep coming my way, and I'm feeling really positive about my art.

I just returned from a mini-residency on the west coast, spending a few days in the Trillium Project's no-internet, no-cell phone, window-full Shotpouch Cabin in the coastal mountain forest outside Corvallis, OR.  For a sneak peek of some lush nature, check out my Instagram @carlybodnarstudio.

While in the woods, I shot photo references (over 1000!) for a new series I'll be working on this summer, fall, and likely beyond, including at ChaNorth, where I've been accepted as an artist in residence for the month of September.  I'm so excited to build on what I learned about myself and my creative process last December at Vermont Studio Center and take my work to the next level at my second month-long artist residency.  I'm also looking forward to building a relationship with ChaShaMa, an organization that does great work in the city getting artists into affordable workspaces.

In other fun news, you can find my work in a few different places right now!

Just before I left for Oregon, Leah Blair included me in her show "Method" about artists' processes at Finback Brewery in Queens.  I missed the opening, but it's up through July 15th.  Go grab a brew and see some art. (Plus it's a dog-friendly space!)

Some of my work is included in the March issue of Average Art (#20), as well as in the forthcoming Summer issue of Create! Magazine, curated by Spoke Art NYC's Jennifer Rizzo.  Ordering info is available online, and I'll be sharing a peek as soon as I get my hands on a copy.
